1883 Liberty V "No Cent" Error Nickel

This 1883 nickel comes in uncirculated condition, encapsulated in an acrylic case. It features a Liberty head on the obverse, and a Roman number V on the reverse. The first of the "V Nickels" had barely left the mint when appalled officials found a fundamental flaw in their design - the word "cents" had been left off. Con artists ended up plating the nickels with gold and passing them off to unsuspecting merchants as $5 gold pieces. Since the Mint so quickly moved to change this coin, it has become one of the more popular nickels to collect.
