Morgans minted here account for only 2% of the total silver dollars struck overall, making them among the rarest.This hoard of Morgans laid in a government vault until 1971 when sacks full of long-forgotten silver dollars minted in Carson City were discovered. They made the decision then to encapsulate each coin in a special tamper-proof plastic holder to preserve its brilliant uncirculated condition, and then sell them to collectors.
